(FOX 2) - GoFundMe will refund more than $20 million in donations in an online effort to build President Donald Trump's border wall.
The Iraq war veteran behind the effort on the fundraising site changed his plans on what to do with the money on Friday.
About $20,213,740 was raised on the site by 338,082 people in 25 days but today Brian Kolfage wrote that instead of donating to the federal government, it will go to a non-profit 501(c)(4) Florida corporation named "We Build The Wall, Inc."
"Eight days before Christmas I started this GoFundMe campaign because I was tired of watching the U.S. government’s inability to secure our southern border. Like most Americans, I see the porous southern border as a national security threat and I refuse to allow our broken political system to leave my family and my country vulnerable to attack," he wrote.
"The federal government won’t be able to accept our donations anytime soon. We are better equipped than our own government to use the donated funds to build an actual wall on the southern border."
